Marian Prayers
While as Catholics we do not pray TO Mary, we do ask her to pray with us and for us, and to watch over and guide us as she was the "First Disciple" of her Son Jesus. She is quite the role model of faith. As we look to her example in the months of May and October as well as the Holy Days of (January 1), Feast of the Assumption (August 15), and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8), as well as other days of dedication, it is helpful to teach some of the many Marian prayers we have so that our teens know and love them. One may never know when the spirit needs to call out to Our Mother!
(True story -- in July of 2008, I found myself having been rushed to the hospital after a bizarre "seizure-like episode" for which I had to undergo an MRI. I am not a fan of confined spaces, a.k.a. claustrophobic, and so found the two LONG 45 minute sessions quite the challenge. As advised, I tried picturing a favorite, peaceful location...but the 'beach' was interrupted by the loud banging sounds of the machine...I tried singing fun songs in my head...but the whirling sounds of the machine through me off...the next thing I knew, I was reciting the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary in my head! Since I could move my fingers ever-so-slightly, they helped me count out the Hail Mary's and I felt a sense of peace come over me. Perhaps this was the first time I truly prayed this as a meditation, as it is intended, rather than a marathon prayer. Regardless, this experience reminded me how important it can be to "drill" basic prayers into our minds so that we do have them "stored away" for times of need! -- Cindee)
How blessed are we to have such a treasury of prayers! Here are just a few:

The AngelusV. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace, The Lord is with Thee; Blessed art thou among women, And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R. Be it done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary, etc. V. And the Word was made Flesh. R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary, etc. V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. LET US PRAY Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen. |
The MemorareREMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
The Hail, Holy QueenHail Holy Queen,
Mother of mercy, Our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping In this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, Thine eyes of mercy towards us. And after this, our exile, Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement O loving O sweet Virgin Mary. V. Pray for us oh holy mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. |
Our Lady of Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe,
mystical rose, make intercession for the Holy Church,
protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities,
and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of God,
obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith,
sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, burning charity
and the precious gift of final perseverance. Amen.

Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland,
you gave hope to our people in a time of distress and comforted them in sorrow.
You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your divine Son,
remembering His promise: "Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find".
Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven.
Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ,
especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick or lonely or depressed.
Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the holy Mass.
Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen.

The Magnificat
(Mary's song of praise to God)
My soul magnifies the Lord
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;
Because he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaid;
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed;
Because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name;
And his mercy is from generation to generation
on those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
He has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and has exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has given help to Israel, his servant, mindful of his mercy
Even as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever.

"LET US PRAY: O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech thee,
that meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.”
ROSARY PRAYERS:
APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, And is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, The Holy Catholic Church,
The Communion of Saints, The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body, And life everlasting. Amen.
The OUR FATHER
Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
The HAIL MARY
Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee;
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
The GLORY BE
Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son,
And to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now,
And ever shall be,
World without end. Amen.
The Fatima Prayer
“Oh my Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven especially those most in need of thy mercy.”
