Pilgrimage to the National Catholic Youth COnference
(NCYC)
Please note: The cost will be HIGHER for the in-person event than in previous years as the conference fee has increased, charter buses will cost more (especially if we need to have only one person per row),
likely the hotel cost will be higher (especially if we need to have fewer per room via health orders)...
so start saving and fundraising now.
THANK YOU for your patience.
We have never had an NCYC during (or soon after?) a pandemic before,
so there are many things to be figured out to provide for a safe and spiritual experience
for our teens and their adult chaperones!

Let the Fundraising Begin!!!!!
Fundraising is ministry.
You are not just asking for money to send you to this conference,
you are also inviting families, co-workers, parishioners, community members and friends to help deepen your relationships with
Jesus and His Church!
Good luck with all your fundraising efforts!
Notes from the April 20, 2021 Youth Ministers Gathering
NCYC
The National Catholic Youth Conference WILL take place this November 18 – 20, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana. There will be an in-person option, with up to 10,000 maximum people, and two virtual options (one just streaming of the general sessions, and another with workshop options and extra content for online participants.)
At this time, with the current Ohio Health Orders (quickly reviewed) and the Diocesan Directives (which includes no over-nights and restrictions for transportation that would make the trip very expensive for a large group) the diocese is NOT organizing a delegation.
NFCYM this year is selling “tickets” to the event, rather than having a diocesan delegation registration process, so there is no advantage/price-break for larger groups and for this year there is no penalty for not using their block-hotel spaces. A parent can decide to take their own teen, buy their tickets and make their own arrangements.
The purchaser has to be an NFCYM member ($75), which means if you are organizing a group, it may make sense to join as an Associate Member to get cheaper ticket prices. https://nfcym.org/become-a-member/
Tickets will be sold first-come-first-served, starting May 1, with price increasing August 1 and September 1, if still available. https://nfcym.org/featured-events/ncyc/
(No word yet on limits to the virtual tickets, just in-person at this time.)
No matter which option you select, make sure that your pastor/administrator/parish leader is aware and in agreement!
Idea-sharing
1. $25 Virtual NCYC option – just invite families to purchase tickets to watch at home, or perhaps add a Zoom meeting/in-person gathering over the weekend to add to the video content.
2. $75 Virtual NCYC option:
3. Hoping that safety protocols will change by the fall to participate in-person
https://youngstownoyyam.weebly.com/ncyc-group-leaders.html
Those on the meeting that indicated planning for in-person NCYC: Cara (St. Joseph, Massillon), Anne (Holy Spirit), Michelle (St. Paul, North Canton), Rose (St. Joseph, Canton) and Cristina (St. Anthony/All Saints).
Those on the meeting that indicated planning for virtual NCYC:
Tina (St. William), Marcy (St. Patrick, Youngstown), Marnie (Holy Family).
Network as you like.
Marcy suggested maybe all interested could get the same shirts for solidarity and a price-break!

Idea-sharing
1. $25 Virtual NCYC option – just invite families to purchase tickets to watch at home, or perhaps add a Zoom meeting/in-person gathering over the weekend to add to the video content.
2. $75 Virtual NCYC option:
- Having teens and chaperones take Friday off school/work to watch video content and add ice-breakers, prayer, discussions, etc.
- Want to work with a couple parishes to meet at a different parish site each day/evening to watch video content and add ice-breakers, prayer, discussions, etc.
3. Hoping that safety protocols will change by the fall to participate in-person
- Parents/parishes can work together for planning.
- NCYC tickets are non-refundable unless the NFCYM cancels the event, but you can try to sell extra tickets.
- Hotels in the NFCYM hotel block do not include the tax added, so rooms could be about $178.50 - $224.91 per night (and don’t forget the daily tipping for housekeeping.) Need to work with families about rooming bubbles (i.e. siblings who can share a bed, or those who have already been in each other bubbles) to determine doubles or quads. Learn about food options and cancelation policies and any added safety protocols.
- Transportation – driver’s insurance for personal or rented vehicles. Know bus company protocols, seating restrictions and cancellation policies. Most base rates on mileage so will want to know exactly to and from where they will be driving you (i.e. have accommodations prior to bus.) The 2 bus companies we have used in the past 15 years went out of business. So, consider trying Baron, Precious Cargo, Cardinal Transportation (Cara has contact of Ryan Wise, [email protected] )
- Not sure what paperwork the NFCYM may require, so you may want to access what we had for 2019 to adapt as necessary: https://youngstownoyyam.weebly.com/ncyc-pilgrimage.html
